Chop, chop

Up until 3 years ago, I rocked a short haircut like nobody's business. It was chin-length, razored, bobbed, dyed, and highlighted. You name it. I tried it.

Then, wedding hair happened. We were engaged the Summer of 2006 and I became obsessed with having long hair for my wedding. Screw getting extensions put in. I was going to have a beautiful updo for my wedding. Well, the wedding came and went. I kept the long hair. I told myself that I had so many options with long hair. I could curl it. I could put it up. I could wear it straight. I could do all kinds of interesting things with it. The problem is that I did none of those things. I washed it and the put it up in some sort of a bun. I kept meaning to keep up with haircuts and highlights. Because my hair was so long, a haircut and a highlight was a half-day affair and very pricey.

I finally got the cut that I didn't have the guts to do back in October. I lopped off 10.5" of hair. For those that follow me on twitter or are my friend on facebook, this is old news and I apologize. Here is a pic of the before and after.

A deciding factor for getting my hair cut so short is that I wanted to donate my hair. If I simply got a trim, it would have just been wasted hair. I did my research. After careful consideration, I decided to donate my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
As Pantene Beautiful Lengths wigs are created, they are distributed for free through select American Cancer Society wig banks across the country. Creating a real-hair wig takes approximately three to four months, and each wig requires at least six ponytails to make. Women facing cancer can find out about the availability of a Pantene Beautiful Lengths wig by calling the American Cancer Society at 1-877-227-1596. The Society can also help callers with a number of resources providing educational and emotional support.

Do I regret cutting my hair? Not a chance. My hair grows quickly. If anyone is considering cutting their long hair or doing the Post Bridal Chop, I hope you consider donating your hair. Please see this website for more information.
